Towards a Sustainable Energy Planning Strategy: The Utilisation of Floor Area Ratio for Residential Community Planning and Design in China

Floor Area Ratio, commonly known as FAR, is a primary planning metric in urbanism. It the ratio of accumulated built floor areas against size site/plot. In recent years, China's rapid urban development has resulted substantial increase particularly residential areas. A notable shift from low-rise row housing typology to more common high-rise unit certainly key factor behind energy use many Chinese cities. This highlights need for sustainable strategy at community level. As novelty, this study reflects on FAR changes context China, and evaluates impacts scale. tests four models 1.0, 2.5, 3.0, 4.0 provides computational modelling analysis, with comparison analysis. 1.0 are typical mid-to-high rise, respectively. Findings suggest least efficient while economically viable model. The results support policy monitory, paradigm shifts future models, small medium-scale compounds
